Little Eagles Sweep Ohio Valley League Championships

By Staff | Nov 11, 2009

On Saturday Oct. 31 in St. Marys, the New Martinsville second, third, and fourth grade team won 6-0; and the fifth and sixth grade team each defeated St. Marys 44-0, to sweep the Ohio Valley League Championships.

In the second, third, and fourth grade game, it only took one score from New Martinsville’s quarterback Hunter Partridge, just before the half, to seal the deal as the Eagles held on to win the game 6-0.

In the fifth and sixth grade game, the Eagles scored early and often. The scoring started when Eagle quarterback Preston Boswell scampered 32 yards for a TD. Tyler Anderson crossed the goal line for the two point conversion to put the Eagles on top 8-0 early in the first. After a St. Marys turnover, Boswell scored from 39 yards out, while Anderson added the two point conversion to push the score to 16-0, after one.

Anderson scored early in the second period, but the two point conversion was not good, and the Eagles held a 22-0 lead.

Boswell added a two-yard TD, while Zach Haught nailed down the two point conversion for a 30-0 Eagle advantage.

Midway through the third period, the Eagles’ Hunter Brill scored from six yards out for a 30-0 lead. The score stayed the same heading into the fourth, when Chase Street scampered in for another tally.

Boswell hooked up with Tyler Williamson for the last points of the game to make it 44-0 Eagles. On the season, both New Martinsville teams went undefeated. The second, third, and fourth grade team went 5-0, while the fifth and sixth grade team went 8-0.
