‘Cats Tumble 42-18 Against Blue Devils
The Paden City Wildcats suffered their fifth loss of the season last Friday as they fell to the Beallsville Blue Devils, 42-18.
With no score by either team in the first quarter, it looked like it was going to be a low scoring, close game. But the high scoring second quarter soon put that thought out of fans’ minds.
Beallsville scored first in the second quarter with 9:40 to go, followed by the kick. Minutes later, Paden City answered that score with one of its own when quarterback Malakai Anderson recovered a fumble in the end zone for the home team’s first six points of the game.
Still in the second, the Blue Devils added another TD run of three yards, followed again by the kick, and again, Paden City answered. Taylor Still bolted down field 81 yards to return the kickoff. Before the second quarter ended, Beallsville tacked on another touchdown and extra point to go up 21-12 at halftime.
In the second half, Beallsville would score three more times while Paden City’s Anderson would add only one more, on a three-yard run.
“They were a good team,” said Wildcat Head Coach Brent Croasmun. “They are a well-coached team and have a good defensive line.”
Paden City had 120 yards on 39 rushes and 59 yards passing for a total of 179 yards in the game. Beallsville rushed for 251 yards on 36 carries and had 125 passing yards for a total of 376 yards in the game.
Beallsville fumbled twice in the game, losing one. They were penalized four times for 60 yards. The Wildcats were penalized three times for 20 yards.
Still was the leading rusher for Paden City, getting 64 yards on 19 carries; Anderson had 17 rushes for 53 yards; and Keith Hardbarger rushed three times for three yards.
Josh Bennett caught four passes for 49 yards in the game and Still had two catches for 10 yards.
Paden City will host the Valley Lumberjacks on Friday.
