State HS Golf Action
The West Virginia High School golf season came to a close as golfers from all over the state converged on Oglebay’s Robert Trent Jones Course, Oct. 13-14 with Hurricane, Grafton, and Charleston Catholic winning the team championships. Brian Anania and Aaron Barna shot a sizzling one-under par to tie for individual honors from Hurricane.
The conditions at Oglebay were very bad, with the winds wreaking havoc on most of the contestants. Blue Eagle golfer Josh Yost finished in the middle of the pack with a two-day total of 205, recording a 104 on the final day with winds knocking the ball off its course. However, making it to the state tournament and playing amongst the best high school golfers in the state was all the satisfaction he needed.
“I’m honored to have participated in the state tournament and I would like to thank my coach, Dave Tallman, for all the patience and guidance he has given me over the past several years,” said Yost. “Also I want to thank all my teammates and my family for helping me along the way. It’s gratifying when you can just go out and learn a sport that you can take with you for the rest of your life.”
