‘Jills Lose To Knights

By Staff | Oct 7, 2009

The Valley Lumberjills fought the good fight, but the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights took the ‘Jills best and won in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15 and 25-9 for the series sweep in volleyball action Sept. 30.

After the Lady Knights took a commanding lead to open the first set, the ‘Jills put together a mini rally, to take a 10-8 lead. However, the Knights put together a rally of their own, keyed by a pair of service aces and a pair of nasty kills to retake the lead at 13-17. Tyler scored three more service aces and blasted a couple more kills to knock at the door late in the set.

The ‘Jills Kristen Wolfe landed a kill to slow down Tyler, but a couple more aces ended the Valley threat and the Knights took the opening set, 25-15. Ashley Staley and Tiffany Hayes led the Lumberjills in the first set with five points each.

In the second set, the ‘Jills fell behind early, but fought hard to even the second set at 13. Tyler rattled off seven straight points before Valley called a time out to cool the red-hot Knights down. Valley added a couple more points off nice volleys and a Carla Mason kill, but the Silver Knights won 25-15. The ‘Jills’ Leah Morris paced her team in set two with eight points, while Wolfe added three.

Valley used a lot of energy to get back in the first and second sets, but couldn’t get anything going into the third set and lost 25-9.

Rachel Ice led Valley with 50 sets and nine digs, while Wolfe, Mason and Morris delivered the big blows with 20 spikes between them.
