Lady ‘Cats On A Tear

On Sept. 21, the Paden City Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team swept the Bridgeport Bulldogs in three straight sets, 25-23, 25-18, and 26-24, to win the match in Bob Burton Gymnasium.

Amanda Sellers and Amber Palmer teamed to set up 78 sets. Sellers added six digs, while Palmer added four digs and six points that included an ace. She also contributed four kills.

Ali Bertozzi paced the ‘Cats with 19 kills while adding seven digs and scoring 10 points, which included four service aces. Amanda Tallman followed with 13 kills, four digs, and six points. Dominique Craft scored six points, including an ace. Craft added four digs and four kills, while Megan Cutlip contributed seven points and six digs. Amanda Heasley added three kills, while Jongrak Khunisorn added eight sets.

On Sept. 22 the Paden City Wildcats disposed of Weirton Madonna and Wheeling Central in straight sets. Against Madonna Bertozzi led the charge with 12 kills, four digs, and three points. Craft led the ‘Cats with eight points three service aces, two digs, and three kills. Palmer and Cutlip each recorded seven points, while Tallman added three points, three digs, and five kills.

Against Central the ‘Cats man-handled the girls in Maroon, 25-10 and 25-12, to win their 13 game against two defeats.

Sellers scored 12 points and had 21 assists to lead the way, while Bertozzi smacked the Knights with eight kills. Tallman added six kills and five points, while Craft added four points. Heasley came off the bench to add three kills, while Cutlip and Palmer each recorded two points in the victory.

PCHS hosted a tri with Wood County Christian and RHS on Sept. 24. Against Wood, the Lady ‘Cats won easily, 25-15.

But, WCC came back and won the next two sets, 21-25 and 19-25 to win the match and give the ‘Cats their third loss of the season.

Bertozzi had 23 kills and eight digs to lead the ‘Cats, while Craft scored a team-high 10 points that included a pair of service aces. Sellers chipped in with nine points, one ace, and seven digs. Also contributing for the Wildcats where Tallman with seven points and four kills, and Palmer with seven digs.

Paden City then faced the River Pilots. In the opening set, Paden City was bombs-away as Bertozzi & Co. blasted their way to an easy 25-10 win. However, the ‘Cats may have taken the Lady Pilots too lightly and dropped a 19-25 second match set.

The loss woke up the hosts who went ahead and dismantled their cross-river rival 25-5 to win their 12th match of the season against three defeats.

Bertozzi had 20 kills in the three sets to lead the Lady Wildcats, while Craft led them in scoring with 16 markers. Megan Cutlip scored nine points that included three aces, while Tallman netted seven points and added four kills.

Leading the charge for River was JoBeth Haslam with 10 points, two kills, and four blocked shots. Autumn Beisel and Kelsi Caretti each had seven points. Beisel added an ace and two kills, while Caretti added one of her points with a service ace. Annie Turner had three assists for the Pilots.
