Paden City Lady Wildcats Take Names

The Paden City Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team continued its hot start to the 2009 campaign Sept. 14 with a convincing three match shutout against the Bridgeport Bulldogs in Bridgeport, 25-18, 25-18 and 25-14.

Amanda Tallman scored 21 points, including six service aces to lead the ‘Cats, while Amber Palmer cashed in with 12 points, including an ace. Palmer also set the table with 24 sets, added two kills and connected on six digs. Sophomore sensation Dominique Craft tallied eight points, including an ace on the night, while senior captain Amanda Sellers added three points, two of which were by way of an ace. She also dished off 44 sets and had seven digs. Alli Bertozzi was her quiet self, blasting away a game-high 24 kills. She scored only one point, but landed six digs. Super sophomore Amanda Heasley had a pair of kills and scored one point on a service ace.

The Wildcats improved to 8-2 after defeating Trinity and then Cameron in a tri on Sept. 15 in Cameron territory.

The Lady ‘Cats lost to Trinity in the first set 21-25, but got even with a 25-8 pounding in set two before winning the match 25-11 in set three.

Sellers had 36 sets with 21 assists to lead the ‘Cats. She also had five digs and scored two points. Bertozzi had 21 kills and scored two points, including an ace, while adding five digs.

Tallman had eight kills for Paden City, scoring three points and adding three digs. Palmer tallied seven points, including an ace. She had four digs and 21 sets. Megan Cutlip had three digs, while Heasley scored eight points, three of which came way of serves. However, Craft scored a career-high 21 points, including three service aces. She also added four digs and three kills for the match in her young career.

Against Cameron, Sellers and Palmer shared 51 sets, while adding 10 digs, four kills and 19 points between them. Bertozzi drilled 17 kills, five digs and had a service ace. Tallman added four kills and scored four points, including two service aces. Craft tallied five points that included two aces and added four digs.

Paden City beat Trinity once more and then prevailed over Valley to improve to 10-2 on the season in straight sets on Sept. 17 at Pine Grove.

Against Trinity, Craft scored a team-high 13 points, including a half dozen service aces, while adding three digs and one kill to lead the Lady Wildcats. Bertozzi landed 16 kills, 10 digs and had one ace, while scoring five points.

Sellers had 19 assists on 21 sets, while scoring three points that included an ace. Tallman scored five point, including a service ace and had three digs. Palmer netted 13 sets, five digs and scored two points. Cutlip added one point and had three digs, while Heasley netted one point on an ace and added a kill.

After a 10-10 tie in set one against the Valley Lumberjiils, Paden City scored 15 of the next 16 points to win the first set 25-11. It was all Lady Wildcats in game two, winning 25-14 to win match 10 of the year.

Freshman Megan Cutlip scored a career-high 13 points, including two service aces, while adding three digs to lead the high-flying ‘Cat offense. Coming off the bench for Paden City was Logan Cosper and Lynnsie Parsons with a pair service aces. Sellers and Palmer combined for 33 sets, while Bertozzi added 14 kills Craft scored four points, including an ace. She also added four digs, three kills and had seven sets. Tallman added four kills, three digs, six points and two aces.
