Lady Eagle Spikers Are Hot
For quite some time, The Lady Eagle Volleyball Team has been a thorn in the side of the Lady River Pilots and the Lady Maroon Knights of Wheeling Central. The Magnolia girls continued that trend with a three-set sweep of River and Central in competition last week.
The Lady Eagles sank the Lady Pilots 25-5 in game one, 25-19 in game two and 25-10 in game three.
Kelsi Heasley totaled 18 points, 10 digs and had two kills to lead the Lady Eagles to an easy victory over River Sept. 15 at the Eagles HammerDome.
Alexa Jo Hanna had a nice match, finishing with 15 points, three service aces, three kills, nine digs and a blocked Pilot spike. Padyn Ludewig and Annie “Get Your Gun” Potts each netted 13 points. Ludewig chipped in with two service aces and Potts added 10 digs. Jordan “I Got You” Babe scored five points, three of which were by way of aces. She smacked 10 spikes, two for kills, while adding three digs. Lacy Jackson scored four points, with one an ace. She added seven kills and netted five digs. Krysten Miller and Emily Blake had five and three digs, respectively.
The thorn snagged deep into Central’s side, as the Eagles flew to stunning 25-9, 25-7 and 25-13 victories on Sept. 17 at the Wheeling Central gymnasium.
The Eagles had 47 spikes in the three matches, scoring 25 with kills. Ludewig netted 19 points and six digs, while Heasley added 10 points and two kills to lead the up-and-coming Eagles in the scoring column. In the spike department, Jackson had 14, Abby Harlan had 12, Babe had 10, Hanna smacked six and Heasley drilled five.
When the Lady Eagles were not hammering the floor with spikes, they where lifting digs over the Maroon Knights. Miller led the way with eight, Potts and Jackson had seven each, Ludewig had six, while Babe and Marissa Bosley each added five. In addition, Hanna had two spikes two and Makensie Dawson had one.
