Eagles Cross Country Does Well In Autumn Classic

By Staff | Sep 2, 2009

Four Magnolia Blue Eagles male cross country runners finished in the top 21 at the St. Marys Autumn Classic Aug. 29 for a fifth place overall finish.

Joe Feeney was the top runner for the Blue Eagles, taking sixth place with 18:03 minutes. Teammate Nathan Harshberger finished 16th, with a time of 18:19 to lead the young Blue Eagle squad.

First-year runner Alec Hinerman, in his first high school race, and sophomore Bill Feeney placed 19 and 21, respectively, with 0.9 seconds difference, at 18:36 and 18:45. Also running in his first race was Kyle Lancaster, who finished 93 with a time of 24:09.

The girls had only three of the required five runners to form a team. However, the trio of Arista Harshberger, Rachel Hoffpaurer and Julianne McIlvain did their very best. Harshberger led the way with a time of 24:39 for a 43rd finish, while Hoffpaurer finished 59th with a time of 25:40. McIlvain was 152nd with a respectable cross county novice time of 37:20.
