Powerboat Races This Weekend In Marietta, Ohio

By Staff | Jul 8, 2009

During the APBA (American Power Boat Association) annual meeting in Raleigh, N. C., the Racing Commission received and reviewed bids for the 2009 North American Championships.

After hearing from the various circuits, groups and clubs seeking the championship rights, the championship title was awarded to Powerboat Superleague and their location choice – Marietta, Ohio.

The Formula Two (SST120) and Formula Three (SST 60) North American Championship races will be held in Marietta during the 10th Annual Marietta Riverfront Roar Powerboat Regatta, July 11-12.

The excellent location, the area’s longstanding appreciation of Superleague powerboat racing, the incredible marketing and promotional efforts, and the most important factor, the dedication of the local race committee contributed to the final decision.

The remarkable cooperation between the committee and the various City of Marietta departments, as well as the cooperation that they receive from the City of Williamstown were equally important.

“It is the continuing support of the local public and private entities that make the Marietta event such a success and those elements made Marietta and the Roar the logical choice for the site of the 2009 North American Champion-ships,” noted Powerboat Superleague officials.

This event is always a highlight of the season for Formula Two and Formula Three teams. It will allow drivers to earn bonus points – for participating in a North American Championship title event – in addition to regular points.

Adding the purse and other prizes, the race is even more attractive and bring more competitors to the area.
