MHS & RHS Host Beast Of The East

By Staff | Jul 1, 2009

The Beast of the East is coming back to the Wetzel County area the Fourth of July week. The Beast is for boys, ages 17-19, from all over the county to play baseball. Games are played at several places throughout the Ohio Valley, including – for the second-straight year – River High School and Magnolia High School.

The Beast brings out top players from all over the US and Canada and features many players who will go on to the collegiate level. Others will be drafted into the minor leagues with hopes of making it to the big leagues.

Several years ago, New Martinsville natives Danny Snyder and Randy Hardman entered a local team for the first time. And, this year, Snyder and Magnolia Athletic Booster President Gregory Bohrer, along with Doug Bohrer and Dave Cisar, were honored by being named Beast of the East chairmen in this part of the Valley for the second year in a row.

Although there are no local teams participating this year, there are local players on teams from other areas. It is a golden opportunity for baseball fans to witness these type of games in our area instead of traveling to Moundsville and Wheeling to watch them. In addition, the presence of the tournament here will be a boost for the local economy. Representatives from colleges and big leagues can be expected to scouting during this event.

The Beast of the East Tournament begins on at 8 a.m., July 2 with games at River and Magnolia High School. The tourney will end July 5 with the last game getting underway at 6 p.m.. The cost of admission is $1 and refreshments will be available at both of the ball fields.

Please come out and support the Beast of the East Tournament at Rick Bonar Stadium at River High School and George Mullett Stadium at Magnolia High School.
