B&K Finishes Week Of Camp With Many Awards

The 2009 B&K Basketball Camp concluded last week with 88 students participating in the awards ceremonies. During the camp, young athletes learned the basics of ball handling, passing, shooting and rebounding skills.
Both offense and defense were taught with the assistance of video tapes as an a instructional guide. The campers also enjoyed a number of contests designed to sharpen their basketball skills.
The camp was brought together more than 20 years ago by the tandem of former Paden City High School Coach Bob Burton and the school’s present coach and athletic director, Fred King, who was coaching at Sistersville High School at the time.
When Burton retired, the camp stayed together with the help of many. One of them is PCHS Assistant Basketball Coach Jeff Bowers, who has been there throughout the years.
The campers were divided into two groups, one for the younger campers and one for older ones. They also were grouped according to age and gender. In the morning, campers would do stretch and shoot drills for 15 minutes before the camp started getting into major motion.
Every day, campers practiced foul shots, three point shots and hot spots skill fundamentals, such as standing broad jump, vertical leap, rope jump, quickness drill and bag jumping. The day also included scrimmage games among groups. Tie games were broken by foul shooting, which emphasized the importance of free:throw skills.
Awards were given out every day at the end of camp, with ribbons given out to first, second and third place in many, many different categories, and medals at the end of the camp on June 19 with the parents and guardians present. In case of a tie, there was a competition between the individuals and or teams.
Below is the results of the daily and weekly events that campers competed and won.
