B&K Basketball Camp Returns

By Staff | Jun 3, 2009

The 23rd Annual B & K Basketball Camp staff will again include coaches from all over the area, successful college and high school athletes, as well as a certified athletic trainer on June 15-19 at Paden City High School. The camp will meet 8 a.m.-12 p.m. each day.

In addition to a fast paced week of basketball instruction, each camper will receive a camp T-shirt, daily refreshments, participation certificates, an evaluation sheet, as well as awards, which will include medals, daily ribbons, and daily hustle awards.

The B & K Camp will feature fundamental drills concentrating on ball handling, passing, shooting and rebounding. It also will stress team offense and defense, as well as video tape instruction. There will be foul shooting contests, three-point shooting contests and one-on-one competitions.

Athletic evaluation will include standing broad jump, vertical leap, jump rope, shuttle run and lateral movement.

Again this year, the camp will meet in one-day sessions to help alleviate some of the problems experienced in the past, such as campers needing to leave camp early during the afternoon session. The Pee Wee group (K-2) will continue to meet in the air conditioned multi-purpose building, while third through eighth graders will meet in the gym.

Camp competitions will continue to be by grade level/gender and team play will be divided into 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. The camp welcomes any boy or girl who will be in grades K-8 during the 2009-10 school year.

The Camp Director, Paden City Head Boys’ Basketball Coach Fred King, asks that campers pre-register, if possible. However, registration also will be held on the first day of camp.

The cost of the camp is $50 a camper. A $5 discount will be extended to any additional family campers. Please make checks payable to B & K Basketball Camp and mail to: Fred King, 303 North 4th. Ave. Paden City, W. Va. 26159; or to Jeff Bowers at 309 North 1st. Ave. Paden City, W. Va. 26159. For more information, call King at 337-8614 or 771-5287 or call Bowers at 337-8336 or 771-1738.

“This is by far the best basketball camp in the Valley,” said Wetzel Chronicle Sports Editor and WVSSAC Basketball Official Bruce Crawford. “Every child is treated the same and will have the same opportunity to improve during the camp.”
