Lady Eagles Advance To Regional Championship

The Magnolia Blue Eagles advance to the Region I Championship in softball to play Point Pleasant after knocking off Weir 1-0 May 14 in the Region I semifinals in Weirton.

Lady Eagle Kelsi Heasley singled to bring home Brittany Batton, who singled earlier in the second inning, while Tori Tharp held the Riders in check from the mound. Tharp scattered six hits, struck out 11 and gave no passes in the complete game shutout.

Batton led the way offensively for Magnolia with three hits, while Heasley connected twice with one, plating the game-winner. Other Eagles smacking hits were Corinne Murdock, Bree Carr, Marissa Bosley, AlexaJo Hanna and Lindsay Miller.

The Lady Eagles, who improved to 17-4 on the season, will face the Pt. Pleasant Lady Big Blacks at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 21 at Point Pleasant for the regional championship. Last season, the Point got by Magnolia in regional finals to go on and claim the 2008 Class AA State Championship.
