Lady Pilots Finish Second In OVAC Class AA Track

The Paden City Lady ‘Cats finished sixth in the OVAC Class A track championships, followed by the Valley Lumberjills in 10th place, while the Irish of Bellaire St. John picked up the conference title.

Amanda Sellers won the 300 meter run and was on the 4 x100 meter team with Amanda Tallman, Dominique Craft, and Taylor Parsons that beat all their competitors. Sellers also was second in the 100 meter hurdles and was on the second-finishing 4 x 100 meter relay team with Sasha Newson, Shauna Durant, and Alli Bertozzi. Newson also placed second in the long jump. Sellers was the girls high-point recipient in Class A.

Valley didn’t win any events, but Tristen Willey finished fourth in the high jump.

In the boys’ bracket, Valley finished fourth and Paden City ninth behind Bellaire St. John who swept Class A track titles.

The Lumberjack 4 x 100 meter relay team of Dylan Edgell, Ronald Morris, William Streets, and Casey Pingley finished in first place, while Morris, Pingley, and Kevin Carson each finished in third place in the high jump, 100 meter dash, and pole vault, respectively.

Josh Bennett finished second in the 300 meter hurdles for the Wildcats.

The River Girls’ Track Team finished second to Steubenville Catholic in the OVAC Class AA Championships last week in Bellaire.

The Pilots got a big portion of their points from Sarah Blatt, who won the high point award in the girls’ bracket, with individual wins in the 800 meter run, 1,600 meter run, 3,200 meter run, and the pole vault. Also picking up first place in their respective events were Chelsey Smith in the shot put and Epic Wayts in the discus.

In the boys’ OVAC Class AA Meet, the Pilots finished a strong third behind Steubenville Catholic and Wheeling Central Catholic, respectively.

D. J. Duke again set a new state record in the shot put with a heave of 66’7“, while falling to second place behind Aaron Schneid of Wheeling Central. Journey Wayts also finished first in the pole vault, while teammate Chad Potts finished second. The Pilots’ 4 x 400 meter and the 4 x shuttle relay team both finished second place.

The Magnolia Girls’ Track Team finished ninth in the OVAC Class AAA, while the boys finished eighth.

The girls didn’t have anyone win an event, but their shuttle relay team placed fourth. The Eagles’ Sarah Mueller and Alli Childers also finished fourth in the shot put and high jump, respectively.

The boys’ team also didn’t have any winners in the OVAC, but their 4 x 800 meter relay team of Joe Feeney, Cameron Benson, Nick Blatt, and Tim Shreve finished a close second to St. Clairsville. Matt Riggs finished third in the discus, while Brandon Kacor was fifth in the 300 meter and fifth in the long jump.
