Hornets’ Smith And McDiffitt Participate In Junior Nationals
Hundred juniors Emery Smith and Logan McDiffitt participated in the basketball USA Junior Nationals Trials in Columbus, Ohio, March 29.
The event is a stepping stone to excellence through competition against other junior high school players throughout Ohio and West Virginia. If selected from among other players in the trials, they will have the opportunity to compete again against formidable opponents throughout the county in July at the Sports Festival at the University of Illinois.
There, they will compete during the week in a super competitive pool play and double elimination International Champion-ship Tournament against top varsity athletes from all across the nation and Canada.
During the Columbus trials, Smith and McDiffitt competed with kids from Parkersburg South, Wheeling Central, Clay-Battelle, and other schools around the Ohio Valley. They both did very well, and, as a team, they lost their first game by two points and won their next two games.
“This was a great opportunity for Logan and myself and we are honored to have been selected,” said Smith.
“This gave us a chance to play with other juniors in our region and it showed us that we can compete with other athletes in the valley.”
