Lady Eagles Advance In OVAC
Magnolia senior first baseman Corinne Murdock throttled a two-run homer in the first to lead the way in a 10-0 shutout against St. Clairsville April 27 in the opening round of the OVAC Tournament.
Tori Tharp went the distance from the mound, limiting the Redskins to three helpless singles. She also sat down nine batters and issued four passes in helping the Lady Eagles to improve to 13-2 on the season.
Eagle leadoff batter Bree Carr smacked a stand-up double to deep right center field to score freshman Dallas Mullett to push the Eagles in front 3-0 in the third.
In the fourth frame, the Eagles tacked on four more runs on three singles, a walk, and a hit by pitch.
Carr doubled in the sixth and Abby Horner brought her home on a single for the Blue Eagles’ last tally of the contest.
In addition to the home run, Murdock was credited with a single and four RBIs to lead in the Eagles in the hitting department. Carr pounded the ball on three separate occasions with a single, two doubles and added an RBI.
Horner, who also had a good night at the plate, added a pair of singles and drove in a pair of Eagle base runners, while Alexajo Hanna singled and doubled.
Magnolia’s next stop is April 30 at Wheeling’s I-470 Sports Complex in a faceoff against Meadowbrook, which defeated Martins Ferry 1-0 last Thursday.
Magnolia 4, Cameron 2
Magnolia Eagle Corinne Murdock smacked a home run and drove in a pair of Eagle base runners, while Tori Tharp limited the high-flying Cameron Lady Dragons to three-hits and struck out 11, as the Eagles defeated Cameron 4-2 April 23 in Cameron.
The Eagles Lyn Miller lined a single and plated a run with a double, while Marissa Bosley contributed an RBI single, to help lead the Lady Eagles.
Magnolia 14, Tyler Consolidated 2
Eagle pitcher Alexa Jo Hanna limited Tyler Consolidated to one hit, struck out five in a complete game from the mound. The Eagle bats pounded Tyler pitching for 10-hits, the Knight added eight errors, as Magnolia improved their record to 11-2 with a 14-2 victory, April 25 at Tyler Consolidated High School over the Lady Knights.
Bree Carr and Bosley led the way offensively with three hits apiece, while knocking in a run.
