Thirty-four points separated the first place and the fourth place teams in the Wetzel Tyler Track League, with Tyler Consolidated nipping Magnolia 140.5 points to 139 points.

River scored 132 points and Wheeling Central was fourth with 106.5 points. The Paden City Wildcats finished in the fifth spot with 27 points, in what appears to be a very competitive boys’ bracket.

The Blue Eagles’ Joe Feeney placed first in the 800 meter run and the 3,200 meter runs with times of 2:10.9 and 11:06.9, respectively. Teammate Nathan Harshberger also won two events. He crossed the finish line in the 1,600 meter run and was on the 4×800 meter run with Alec Hinerman, Nick Blatt, and Jon Rine. Workhorse Brendan Kacor out jumped his competitors in the long jump with a 19’7” leap.

The Pilots’ D.J. Duke easily won the discus and shot events, while Journey Wayts took top honors in the pole vault, catapulting the 11’6″ bar with ease.

The Wildcats didn’t have a winner, but freshman Taylor Still placed third in the high jump and the 100 meter dash and was fourth in the 200 meter dash.

The Wetzel/Tyler Track League got off to a roaring start March 31 at Tyler Consolidated as the Lady Pilots of River High School won the girls’ bracket with 157 points. Tyler Consolidated was a close second, with Paden City, Magnolia, and Wheeling Central finishing 3-5 respectively.

Sarah Blatt was first in the pole vault at 9’6″; first in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 12:02.4; and was first with Autumn Beisel, Emily Dierkes, and Alexa Isaly in the 4×800 relay event. Beisel also finished first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:40.2. Teammate Randa Imhoff outran all her competitors in the 1,600 meter run, while Desi Hinkle and Epic Wayts finished at number one in the shot put and discus, respectively.

Magnolia had two girls take first in the 400 meter run and the high jump. April Melott tied with Rheanna Foley of Tyler with a time of 1:08.8, and Alli Childers out jumped all her counterparts in the high jump with a jump of 4’8″.

Newcommer Ali Bertozzi of Paden City finished first in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash and was on the 4×400 meter relay team that took first place. Her team included Sasha Newson, Dominique Craft, and Shauna Durant. Amanda Sellers finished first in the long jump and finished first with Amy Toman, Taylor Parsons, and Amanda Tallman in the 4×100 meter shuttle relays.
