Hornets Succumb To Dragons In Sectional

The Cameron Dragons used a 21-11 run in the fourth period to overtake the Hundred Lady Hornets to win the opener, 57-52, of the West Virginia Region I Section I Sectionals at the Cameron Feb. 21.
The Lady Hornets held a slim one-point advantage after one period and held to it at the break, before taking a 41-36 lead into the fourth.
However, the Lady Dragons climbed back into the game and made 12-20 free throws in the second half, while the Hornets connected on only 2-12. Hundred also lost four starters to fouls.
Jordyn Gorby paced the Lady Hornets with 16 markers, while Raven McDiffitt netted a baker’s dozen. Chelsea Kuhn swished the cords for 10 points, including a pair of baskets from beyond the arc.
Macy Woods tallied six points, including a triple, while Tayla Simpson netted five points for the visitors and Lindsay Burley laid in two points.

The Lady Hornets finished the season 10-13 and will lose three starters to graduation in Nancy Cumberledge, Chelsea Kuhn, and Talya Simpson. Others who will graduate include, Tara Koontz and Jo Simpson, but will return their two top scorers in Jordyn Gorby and Raven McDiffitt.
In addition, point guard Macy Woods and center Lindsay Burley will also return.
