Lady Blue Eagles Drop Two Heartbreakers

The Magnolia Blue Eagle Girls’ Basketball Team has had a few ups and a lot of downs this season and on Feb. 5, at home with a packed Magnolia HammerDome, the Lady Eagles proved they could play with Parkersburg Catholic which is 13-5 on the season.
Catholic has had a strong-hold in the state tournament for many years and, other than a 20-7 run to start the game, the Eagles outscored the visitors 45-43, despite their leading scorer Padyn Ludewig not scoring. Catholic went on to win 63-52.
Seniors Corinne Murdock and Tincy Haught netted 16 and 12 points, respectively, to lead the Blue Eagles, while Lindsay Riggs contributed nine markers.
Freshmen Abby Harlan added seven, Jordan Babe swished the nets twice from beyond the arc and Marissa Bosley netted two.
After the OVAC Tournament Monday and Thursday, the Blue Eagle girls’ will travel to Ritchie County High School Feb. 16, with the junior varsity tip getting underway at 6 p.m. and the varsity game to follow.

The Magnolia Lady Eagles were outscored 14-3 in overtime as the Ritchie County Lady Rebels prevailed 62-51 Feb. 16 at Ritchie County.
Corinne Murdock and Lindsay Riggs teamed for 25 points, while Padyn Ludewig and Abby Harlan teamed for 15 to pace the Eagles. Tincy Haught added four markers, while Marissa Bosley and Jordan Babe each netted a basket from beyond the arc.
The Lady Eagles begin their quest for another trip to Charleston Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. when they host the Weir High Lady Red Riders in the Class AA, Sectional Tournament in the HammerDome.
