Blue Eagles Take Two From Weir Red Riders

The Magnolia Blue Eagles won two games against the Weir Red Riders, Feb. 13 and Feb. 14.

In the first game at the Magnolia HammerDome, the Eagles out-rebounded the Red Riders 40-27 en route to a 65-58 victory.

Jon Rine scored 17 points, including two baskets from well beyond the arc, to lead the Blue Eagle offense, while Jared Blatt and Josh Yost each netting 16 points. Blatt also pulled down a game high 10 boards for a double-double.

Also netting points for the Eagles were, Matt Sapp with eight points; Andrew Robinson with five points; Jordan Moore with two points; and Traeh Keller with one point.

In the second matchup, the Riders jumped out to a 10 point advantage after one period of play and held that advantage at the break. However, the second half was all Magnolia as the Eagles exploded, scoring 48 points, while holding Weir to 27 to gain the come-from-behind victory.

Senior forward Jon Rine led all scorers with 22 points, including a threeball and 11-12 from the charity stripe. He also paced the Eagles with five assists. Fellow senior Andrew Robinson netted 17 markers that included a pair of baskets from beyond the arc. Matt Sapp contributed 15 points, including three buckets from downtown, while dishing off four assists and hauling in five rebounds from his guard position.

Other Eagles denting the scoreboard were Jared Blatt with 13 points and 17 rebounds; Andy Huggins with nine points and eight rebounds; and Josh Yost two points.

The number three seed Eagles will play second seed St. Clairsville in the OVAC Class AAA tournament. If the Eagles win, they will play for the title Saturday, Feb. 21 at Ohio Eastern University, beginning at 1 p.m. But, if they lose, they will play the loser of fourth seed Oak Glen and number one seed Union Local. The higher seed will host the second game at 6 p.m. Feb. 19.
