Smith Joins 1,000 Club

By Staff | Jan 21, 2009

Jacob Smith

Valley High School senior standout Jacob Smith has joined an elite group of athletes that have scored 1,000 points in their basketball careers.

Smith only needed one point to reach the milestone when he nailed a jumper during a road game against Cameron Dec. 30 in the opening period

However, it was bittersweet, as Smith injured his knee in the third period and has never returned.

Smith has undergone one operation and has another one scheduled soon. He was the leading scorer for the Lumberjacks with more than 20 points per game and helped his team take second place in the Paden City Bob and Sharon Burton Christmas Classic earlier in the season. He also was named to the All-Tournament Team.

We at the Chronicle wish Smith the best and look forward to his recovery.
