Lady ‘Jills Sweep Notre Dame, 44-26

The undefeated Class-A Lady Bishops Donahue won over the Valley Lumberjills 41-23 Jan. 19 at Pine Grove, with the ‘Jills held to under 20 points through the first three quarters.

Although Valley was outscored in every period, it held Bishop to nine points per quarter until the final stanza, when Donahue went on a 14-7 run to seal the win.

Morgan Starkey paced her team with six points, while Lesta Kocher added five more markers. Jackie Greathouse and Tiffany Hayes had three points each, while Hannah Shaw, Brittany Guthrie, and Lauren Ueltschy combined for six points to finish the Lumberjill scoring.

The Lumberjills made it 7-2 on the season Jan. 13 as they defeated Clarksburg Notre Dame 44-26 at Clarksburg.

The ‘Jills gained a 9-3 advantage in the first period and never looked back, leveraging 10-7 and 18-13 scoring runs in the second and third periods, respectively, to set up the final chorus.

Kocher was high scorer for the ‘Jills with 13 markers, followed by Guthrie with 10 points that included two baskets the hard way.

Kocher grabbed four rebounds and stole two basketballs, while Guthrie snatched three boards, dished out two assists, and had four stolens.

Hayes added nine markers that included a threeball and 2-2 at the stripe. She also hijacked three basketballs.

Aly Weber contributed six points, 10 boards, and an assist, while Greathouse and Starkey combined for another six points to complete Valley’s scoring. Greathouse grabbed four rebounds, while Starkey stole a ball and dished out two assists.
