Hornets Score 72 On Hannan

The Hundred Lady Hornets pushed their season to 6-5 when they defeated the Lady Panthers of Hannan 72-31 Jan. 17 in an unscheduled game at the Hornets’ Nest.
Hundred took a huge 26-8 lead in the opening quarter, led by Raven McDiffitt, Jordyn Gorby, and Nancy Cumberledge. They extended Hundred’s advantage to 37-17 at the half. After the break, the Lady Hornets simulated their first period performance, outscoring Harman 21-7.
Hundred’s defense held the visitors from Randolph County to less than 10 points in every quarter.
Every Lady Hornet that played, scored. In addition to 10 points, Gorby grabbed two off the glass, dished out four assists, and hijacked four basketballs.
McDiffitt ended the night with 10 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three stolens, while sophomore Macy Woods shot nine points that included 2-2 at the foul line. Woods also had an assist and four rebounds. Chelsea Kuhn landed seven points that included 1-2 at the stripe, two boards, three steals, and an assist.
They were followed by Nancy Cumberledge, Tayla Simpson, and Jo Simpson with six points each, while sophomores Lindsay Burley and Taylor Lind, as well as freshman Mercedez Goff, sent up four points each. Lind also anted up six rebounds. Burley also helped out with five rebounds, one block, and as many steals and assists.
In addition, Cumberledge took down five boards, had one steal, and as many assists, while Tayla Simpson grabbed seven rebounds and a steal. Jo Simpson chipped in six points and two rebounds, while Goff helped out with five rebounds, two stolens, and an assist.
Freshman Shayna Tedrow hit for two points and was otherwise busy snatching eight rebounds, blocking five shots, and swiping two others. She also added an assist, while senior Tara Koontz completed Hundred’s scoring with two points. Koontz also grabbed nine boards for the Lady Hornets, hijacked three basketballs, and dished out an assist.
The Hornets will be on the road with Cameron and Valley Sept. 22 and 26, respectively, with both games getting underway approximately 7:30 p.m.
