Eagles Freshmen Perfect
The Magnolia Blue Eagle Boys’ Freshman Basketball Team, under the leadership of veteran Coach Larry West, is playing picture-perfect basketball so far this season. Below, starting with the most recent game, are scores and stats from their first six games played.

The freshmen hosted the Linsly Cadets on Jan. 11 and came away with a 53-50 win. Drew Goddard hit a three from the corner late in the game, while Tyler Myers sealed the win for the Eagles with two foul shots.
Scoring for Magnolia were: Drew Goddard, 21; Myers, 10; Josh Korns, eight; Bentley Knight, six; Michael Jones, four; and Andrew Stackpole and Corey Moore each added two.

On Jan. 5, the Eagles traveled to Bishop Donahue and came away with a 51-24 victory. Scoring for the Eagles include Korns, 13; Knight and Moore each contributed 10 markers, while Goddard added eight, Evan Heslep, six; Myers, three; and Jones, one.

On Tuesday, Dec. 30, the team visited John Marshall to take on the Monarchs. It was a piece of cake as the Eagles came away with a 46-32 verdict. Scoring for the Eagles were Korns, 20; Goddard, 11; Knight, 10; Jones and Moore both netted two; while Heslep added one point.
In the second meeting of the year with the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights, the Big Blue soundly came away with a 49-29 victory on Dec. 18. Scoring in double figures for the upstart Eagles were Korns with a game-high 13 points. Goddard added a dozen markers and Moore netted 10. Myers, Jones, and Knight finished the scoring with six, five, and three points respectively.

On Dec. 8, the Eagles were victorious over the Monroe Central Seminoles, 52-44.
Korns led the way offensively for the undefeated Eagles with a game-high 17 points, while Jason Keller followed with 15 markers. Other team members denting the scoring include Knight with eight; Nick Blatt, six; and Jones and Goddard each added three points.
In the season opener, the Eagles ran away with an easy 71-19 victory over rival Tyler Consolidated.
Four Eagles eclipsed double digit scoring: Keller, 13; Jones, 12; and Blatt and Goddard each with 10. Knight added seven; Korns, six; Myers, five; Heslep, four; and Moore and Stackpole each netted a deuce.
The undefeated Blue Eagles will look to keep their perfect season intact when they travel to Monroe Central Jan. 22 to take on the Seminoles at 6 p.m. and then host the Ritchie County Rebels Jan. 24 at 4 p.m.
