The Magnolia Blue Eagles dominated the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights Jan. 17 from the opening tip to the final buzzer by the final score of 84-40.

The Blue Eagles scored the first 10 points of the game and, by the end of the first period, held a convincing 23-5 advantage, led by the Twin Towers, Jared Blatt and Joshua Yost.

In the second period of play, the Eagles played several different defenses and had 10 of their 12 players in the game at one point, while running their offense to perfection.

The young Magnolia squad scored 22 points in the second frame, but did allow the Silver Knights 16 points, to hold down a 45-21 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Eagles continued their offensive explosion by putting up 18 points, while holding the Knights to 10 to make the score 63-31 after three periods of non-stop action.

In the fourth, the Eagles outscored Tyler 21-9, but had to put their starters back in for a couple minutes after the Knights scored seven straight points off their reserve players.

Yost led all scorers with 18 points, while pulling down five boards. Jared Blatt followed with 17 points and 14 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double. Matt Sapp scored 10 points, including two three-point baskets, while senior forward Jon Rine just missed his double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Landon Herrick tallied seven points, including two baskets from well beyond the arc, while Jordan Moore chipped in with six points. Andy Huggins also tallied six points, while teammates Mason Rine netted four and Traeh Keller one basket from downtown.

Finishing the scoring for Magnolia were freshman Nick Blatt and Jason Keller with two points each. Senior point guard Andrew Robinson didn’t score, but orchestrated the offense, while leading the Eagles with three steals and six assists.

The Eagles will look to continue their offensive domination against John Marshall today at the HammerDome. The junior varsity tilt will get underway at 6 p.m. with the varsity game to follow.
