MHS Cross Country Teams Update
Rachel Hoffpauir and Laura Kane lead the way for the Blue Eagle Cross Country team at Grand Vue Park in Glen Dale Sept. 27 at the John Marshall Invitational.
Hoffpauir came back from an injury to finish 34th in 25:37 and Kane finished 46th in 26:05 on the very hilly course. The girls’ team placed 11th in the 18-team field. Other finishers for the team were Andrea Lockhart in 75th position in 29:58; Rebecca Brookover in the 78th slot at 30:43; Alyssa Warren, 84th place, in 32:34; and Morgan Dawson finishing injured at 34:46 for 93rd place.
The boys’ partial team was lead once again by Joe Feeney in 20:15 and a 26th place, followed by teammate Nathan Harshbarger in 38th place in exactly 21 minutes. Freshman Bill Feeney came across in 21:45 and a 49th place with senior Andrew Hoffman following.
The John Marshall Invitational was won by Morgantown High School in the girls’ division and by Wheeling Park in the boys’ division.
Magnolia High School Coach John Holliday says, “This was one of the larger meets we run in and it was loaded with some very good AAA and A/AA teams. Our runners were very competitive on what is easily the toughest course we run this year. On Saturday, Oct. 4, we have the OVAC Championships at Meadowbrook. That, and our Regional Championships, are the meets we aim for and we should be able to have full scoring teams for both the boys and girls for the first time. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do against that field in Byesville”.
