The Lumberjacks fresh off their third win of the season a week earlier, traveled to Williamstown on Tuesday, March 3, to battle the WCC Wildcats in a Class A Region 1 quarter final game. The Lumberjacks fell twice in the season to the Cats, but have looked much improved lately and were hoping to get a win. However, WCC had thoughts of their own and used the home floor to their advantage on the way to a 77-51 win over the Jacks to advance in tournament play.

The Wildcats took a 41-20 halftime lead and never looked back to get the victory. Valley received scoring from seven players in the contest with Wyatt Rogers knocking in 14 points, while Kolton Kinkade added 12, including a 3-pointer. Cayden Stakpole hit two 3’s in the second quarter to end with six points, while Zane Fluharty and Gaige Wichterman each hit three baskets for six points each.Trevor Martin added four points and Dustin Haught hit a 3-pointer to round out the visitor scoring.

The Wildcats received a stellar performance from Daniel Cunningham who hit 20 first half points and ended with a game high 35 markers, including four 3’s, while going 3-5 from the free throw line and pulling down 12 rebounds. He was backed in the scoring column by Peyton Russell with 15, including a three. Asher Fenton, Angelis Palata, and Cameron Coppernoll all had nine points in the win.

The Cats hit 30 shots from the floor, including seven 3-pointers, and made 7-10 from the foul line. Valley hit 22 field goals, including four 3-pointers and made 3-5 from the free throw line.

The Lumberjacks finished the season at 3-18.
