Valley Girls Crush Notre Dame on Senior Night
Valley high school entertained Notre Dame on Monday night, February 16, in Pine Grove as they celebrated senior night for girls basketball.
The Lumberjills would not be outdone as they received a huge performance from their three seniors to gain a 57-25 victory over the Fighting Irish to record win number 6 on the season and improve to 6-7 overall.
The Jills came out hot from the start and took a 27-12 halftime lead over the visitors. The second half didn’t get any better for the Irish as the Lumberjills put 30 more points on the board, while holding Notre Dame to 13.
The Lumberjills seniors didn’t disappoint the crowd with Laken Dawson scoring a game high 23 points. Senior teammate Michaela Miller was right on her heels as she cashed in four 3-pointers on her way to a career high 21 points. Senior Alexis Highley canned a long 3-pointer and played a good floor game to help with the victory. Also scoring for Valley was Kendall Loy and Maddy Miller with five points each.
Leading the charge for the Fighting Irish was Addy Murphy with 10 points and Izzy Fittro with nine.
Valley led in rebounds 32-19, and forced the visitors into 17 turnovers. The Jills hit 22 shots from the floor, including eight 3’s and made 5-10 free throws. Miller, Dawson, and Highley all had three steals, while Miller added four assists, and Dawson had seven rebounds. Highley contributed two assists and three rebounds.
Notre Dame hit 10 field goals, including one 3-pointer and made 4-10 foul shots.
During the contest Senior guard/forward Michaela Miller was presented with recognition for scoring her 500th career point.
“Miller is an outstanding player who gives 100 percent everyday on and off the court. I am so proud of her and happy to have had the opportunity to coach her the past couple years. She will go on to great things,” said coach Tommy Shannon.
