Valley Girls Fall to Wildcats
The Lumberjills made the trip to Williamstown on Tuesday night, January 6 , to take on the Wood County Christian Wildcats in girls high school basketball action.
The home team Cats took a commanding 30-19 halftime lead and held on to get a 46-36 win over Valley.
Wood County had three players finish in double figures led by Brooke Arnold with 14. Alaina Paisley and Ellie Piatt each contributed 12, as the trio scored 38 of the team’s 46.
Not to be overdone was Valley’s All-State candidate Laken Dawson who knocked down two 3-pointers and went 3-4 from the free throw line on her way to a game high 21 points. She also had nine rebounds and six steals. Providing scoring support for the Jills’ was Michaela Miller with five points, and Alexis Highley with five, including a 3-pointer. Kendall Loy hit a 3-ball and Aubree Mason added a basket.
Valley hit 13 shots from the floor, including three 3’s and made 4-8 free throws.
Wood County canned 17 field goals and made 9-16 foul shots.
“Wood County has a nice team. We came out a little cold in the first half and they got the big lead on us. We settled down in the second half and played them basket for basket. We are a young team and we’re getting better with each game. I’m really proud of our girls’ effort,” coach Tommy Shannon said.
The loss dropped the Lumberjills to 2-3 pm the season. Wood County Christian moved to 5-3 with the win.
