The Blue Eagles on Friday evening October 24, hosted Mt View at Bill Stewart Memorial Stadium and celebrated Senior Night by shutting out the visitors 22-0 for their first win of the season.

Before the start of the game the Magnolia honored 16 seniors for their contributions to the school.

The Golden Knights won the opening coin flip and deferred till the second half. Magnolia received the kickoff at their own 37-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, quarterback Kingston Christen hit Finn Loy with a screen pass that went for 11 yards and a first down. The visitors defense stiffened and forced the Eagles to punt. Lucas Anderson punted the ball that only carried seven yards to set up Mt View on their own 45-yard line to start their first series. It didn’t last long as Magnolia forced a fumble, and recovered the ball at the Golden Knights 45-yard line.

The Eagles marched down the field on the legs of sophomore Greg Moore, freshman Kraton Nice, and junior Ethaniel Harlan. Christen hit Loy for a 15-yard pass and Harlan would then score on a 3-yard run 3:01 left in the first quarter, Christen hit Loy for the 2pt conversion pass to make it 8-0 Blue Eagles.

Mt View’s next drive started at their 26-yard line and quickly picked up 36-yards on a nice run, however the drive stalled when the Eagles defense stopped the Golden Knights on fourth down to take over at their own 23-yard line.

Christen then hit Connor Carpenter for 12 yards, and Lucas Anderson for 13 yards. Moore and Harlan both picked up big yardage in the drive to place the ball at the 10 yard line. From the Mt View 10-yard line, Christen connected with Loy in the end zone for the touchdown, Christen hit Carpenter for the 2pt conversion pass to make it 16-0 with 4:08 left in the first half.

Magnolia’s defense was stellar all evening, sacking the Golden Knights quarterback several times in key situations to get the ball back late in the half. The Eagles were driving down the field after a Christen to Loy 20-yard pass to start the drive, but the drive stalled at the Knights 25-yard line and the half would end with the Eagles leading 16-0.

After the break Magnolia’s defense held the Knights in check on a fourth and five at the Eagles 14-yard line. That is the closest the Knights would get the rest of the contest. Neither team would score in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Moore would score his first touchdown of the year on a nice 15-yard run with 2:52 left in the game to seal the victory. The 2 pt conversion pass was no good.
