OVAC Track Championships

Gavin Derby
The OVAC Track Championships were held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, in St. Clairsville under cool weather and rainy conditions, but the Magnolia Blue Eagles withstood the elements and performed at a high level to win the 1A/2A Championship. The Blue Eagles scored 96 points to get the win over second place Shadyside with 74 points.
In the 100 meter dash Valley’s Gavin Derby got first place as he blitzed the field with a blazing time of 11.38 good for 10 points.Derby’s time was the best of the day in all Classes. Magnolia’s J.D. Mensore finished fourth in the event with a fine time of 12.42 good for four Blue Eagle points. Event 35 Boys 200 Meter Dash 1A2A
Gavin Derby also won the 200 meter dash for Valley high school finishing the race in a time of 23.22 good for 10 more points. River’s Wyatt Stalder came in third in a time of 24.07 good for six points.
Magnolia’s Landen Davis captured the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.49 good for 10 Blue Eagle points. Teammate Parker Werhau finished fourth in a time of 2:08.19 good for four points.
Landen Davis came in second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:39.31 good for eight points. Magnolia’s Riley Dennis was fourth in the event with a time of 4:57.18 good for four points.
The Blue Eagles’ Landen Davis also finished second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:11.01 good for eight points giving him 26 points on the day.
Valley Gavin Derby added 10 more points to his total on the day winning the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 42.01 giving him 30 points on the day.
River high school took second place in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:39.49 good for eight points from a team of Wyatt Stalder, Ayson Mcbride, Tyler Winkler, and Aiden Milhoan.
Magnolia finished third in the 4×400 meter relay in a time of 3:42.40 good for six points from a team of Kole Goddard, Parker Werkau, Hunter Oates, and Dubale Greathouse.
The Blue Eagles finished second in the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 8:43.61 good for eight points from a team of Cameron King, Parker Werkau, Riley Dennis, and Landen Davis.
Dubale Greathouse claimed first place in the high jump for Magnolia clearing the bar with a jump of 6-00.00 good for 10 Blue Eagle points.
In the long jump Valley’s Gavin Derby finished a close second with a leap of 20-06.00 good for eight points giving him 38 individual points on the day to make him top scorer in 1A/2A on the day. Magnolia’s Dubale Greathouse came in third in the long jump with a leap of 20-05.75 good for six points.
In the Short Put the Blue Eagles Matthew Anderson finished second with a heave of 45-10.00 good for eight points. Teammate Darin Shimp ended third with a toss of 43-00.00 good for six points. Anderson finished second in the discus throw with a throw of 134-05 good for eight points and Shimp finished third with a throw of 133-10 good for six points.
River Girls Place Second at OVAC 1/A2A Track Championships
In the 100 meter dash Valley’s Laken Dawson finished second in a time of 13.17 good for eight points. Magnolia’s Bella Sockman came in fourth in a time of 13.68 good for four points.
In the 200 meter dash Laken Dawson finished first in a time of 27.13 good for 10 points for Valley. Bella Sockman finished second in a time of 27.66 good for eight Blue Eagle points.
Brooke Huffman of River finished first in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 17.13 good for 10 points. Teammate Maci Isaly finished second in a time of 17.55 good for eight points.
In the 300 meter hurdles Valley freshman Elynn Derby finished second in a time of 51.27 good for eight points.
River won first place in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 52.56 good for 10 points from a team of Kara Miller, Carleigh Trifonoff, Ashley Miller, and Brayleigh Trifonoff. Magnolia was second in a time of 53.04 good for eight points from a team of London Alexander, Sienna McKeever, Jessa Anderson and Bella Sockman.
In the 4×200 meter relay Magnolia came in third in a time of 1:57.40 good for six points from a team of Bindy Campbell, Sienna McKeever, Hallee Beisel, and Jessa Anderson. River was fourth ina time of 1:58.42 good for four points from a team of Brooke Huffman, Maci Isaly, Mallory Brake, and Isis Nichols.
River finished second in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 4:28.06 good for eight points from a team of Kara Miller, Brayleigh Trifonoff, Mallory Brake, and Carleigh Trifonoff. Magnolia Was fourth in a time of 4:35.95 good for four points from a team of Lon don Alexander, Bindy Campbell, Hallee Beisel, and Bella Sockman.
River girls won the shuttle hurdles in a time of 1:08.00 good for 10 team points from a team of Brooke Huffman, Mallory Brake, Ashley Miller, and Maci Isaly.
Magnolia’s Leah Hartline came in second in the high jump with a jump of 4-08.00 good for eight points.
In the pole vault Rover’s Kara Miller ended third with a vault of 7-00.00 good for six points. The Lady Pilots Carleigh Trifonoff came in second in the long jump with a leap of 15-02 good for eight points.
