Magnolia Beats River 8-7

Magnolia picked up a hard fought victory over River on Monday night, April 7, at Hydro Field as Jessa Anderson drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh with a line drive single to right field, breaking a 7-7 tie and giving the Blue Eagles an 8-7 win before the home crowd.

The Blue Eagles for locked up in a pitching duel between Mallory McDiffitt and River’s Ava Wohnhas with each pitcher going the distance. Wohnhas struck out 14 batters in six and a third innings, but McDiffitt got the win setting down 11 batters for the Lady Eagles.

The Blue Eagles committed six errors in the contest giving River four of their seven runs unearned. The Lady Pilots had two errors.

For River Mallarie Maddy brought home two runs in the game on two hits, including a towering home run. Presley Kilburn also drove in a run.

McDiffitt and Sophia Alexander each had two RBI for Magnolia. The Blue Eagles had seven extra base hits, Bella Sockman led the way with a pair of doubles with Alexander, Audri Quinn, Sienna McKeever and Caroline Heil each getting a double. McKeever also had a triple and stole a pair of bases.

The Blue Eagles scored three runs in the first to take an early lead, but the Lady Pilots added three of their own in the third. Magnolia scored three more in the bottom of the third to go back up 6-3, but River would add three more in the fourth. Both teams added one more run before Magnolia brought home two in the seventh for the win.
