Magnolia Softball Opens 2025 Season with a Win Over Tyler 13-6

The Magnolia Blue Eagles 2025 squad under coach Danny Anderson opened the season at home with a13-6 win over rival Tyler Consolidated on Wednesday evening March 19th at Hydro Field.

The Blue Eagles plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning over visiting Tyler Consolidated for a 5-1 lead on their way to the win.

Jessa Anderson led the Eagles attack going 4-5 with three singles and a double, while freshman catcher Bella Sockman had 4 rbi’s and three hits, and Mallory McDiffitt went the distance on the mound for the victory. McDiffitt struck out 10 Knights batters and scattered five hits with two walks. She helped her own cause at the plate with two hits and an RBI, while scoring a pair of runs.

Sienna McKeever and Hudson added two hits each for the Eagles. Sophia Alexander knocked in a run with a single, while scoring two runs.

The (1-0) Eagles collected 14 hits, 13 runs, 5 walks and 7 strikeouts in the win.

Magnolia went up 8-1 after two innings, but Tyler cut the lead to 8-5 with four runs in the top of the third. However, Magnolia came right back in the bottom of the frame to plate three runs upping the lead to 11-5. The Blue Eagles added two more in the bottom of the fourth for a 13-5 advantage. The Silver Knights added a run in the top of the fifth to end the scoring by both teams on the night.

Sandy took the loss for the Silver Knights going the distance and giving up 14 hits and striking out seven while walking five. She also led the Knights with two hits driving in two runs. Rocchio added two hits, and Gump drove in two runs with a hit. The Knights had 12 errors in the contest while Magnolia committed four.
