Hundred Defeats Wildcats

Visiting Paden City found themselves in a deep hole on Tuesday night, February 18, in Hundred as the Hornets jumped out early to a 27-6 first quarter advantage behind 10 points in the frame from Trey Huggins. The home team never looked back, increasing the lead to 56-24 at halftime on their way to a convincing 95-53 victory in their home game with the Wildcats. The game was scheduled by mutual agreement as a make-up game for both schools who missed a game against other opponents due to the weather. The Wildcats will travel back out to Hundred tomorrow night for a regular scheduled game with the Hornets in what will be the last time the two teams will meet in Basketball due to consolidation in Wetzel County.

The Hornet’s nest was buzzing as four players hit for double figures and 10 players got their name in the score book. Colt Sandy led the way with a game high 25 points including a trio of 3-pointers in a little over three quarters of play, while pulling down 16 rebounds for a double-double.

Senior center Brayden Bartrug was right behind with 23 points with 16 coming in the third quarter, while grabbing 12 rebounds as Hundred built an 86-35 point lead with eight minutes to play. The Hornets pulled the starters at that point and the Wildcats won quarter four 18-9. T. Huggins hit for 12 markers including a pair of 3’s, and Tyler Sleeth hit for 10 points all in the first half. Jaxon Huggins hit three from long range in the first half for nine points and added eight assists and five rebounds.

Terry Greaver hit for five points including a three, while Ryley Wright added four including a three. Austin LaRue hit a 3-pointer and Gavin Rakes and Austin Hayes each added two points.

Paden City received a good effort from the team as Jessup Higgins knocked in 17 points with 11 coming in the second quarter.He ended with four 3-pointers on the night. Braxton Yoho hit two 3-pointers and ended up with eight points on the night including 2-2 from the free throw line. Skylar Wright added seven points including a 3-pointer, while Jack Nelson hit for six including a three. Isaiah Cambell and Kakub Billiter each got four points, while Brayden Neff hit a 3-pointer. Jacob Goddard and Cannon Matheny each hit a basket for two points.

Hundred knocked in 38 shots from the floor on 64 attempts including 13 of 29 three pointers. The Hornets made 6-13 free throws. Paden City hit 19 field goals including nine 3’s and made 6-15 free throws.

Hundred picked up their sixth win against 11 losses on the season while Paden City fell to 3-15.
