Magnolia Lady Eagles Take Down Madonna 56-37

The Lady Blue Eagles traveled to Weirton Madonna on Wednesday evening February 12th to battle the Lady Dons.

Assistant coach Zach Blair led the Blue Eagles as coach Kasey Sapp was unable to make the trip due to illness.

The game was back-and-forth in the first half and was tied 10-10 after the first quarter. However, Magnolia held a 23-21 lead at halftime behind 15 first half points, including a 3-pointer from freshman guard sensation Kaylee Yost.

Christany Bartley who was celebrating her Senior Night for Madonna nailed 4 three-pointers and had 13 points in the first half.

Following the halftime break Magnolia turned up the defensive pressure with the Blue Eagles Bella Sockman holding the Dons leading scorer Bartley to just one basket a long three-pointer in the second half. The Eagles led after three quarters 42-32 and then outscored the home team 14-5 over the next eight minutes to get the win going away 56-37.

Despite the Dons hitting on 7 three-pointers the Eagles defense and rebounding was the story of the game. The Blue Eagles ended with 14 steals and forced 23 turnovers, while out rebounding the Blue Dons 34-17.

The Eagles improved to (9-12) on the season and were led by Yost taking game high honors with a personal best on the season of 22 points. Aubrey Warder also came up big with two 3-pointers while finishing with 14 points. Sienna McKeever netted 10 points, Karli Warder chipped in 6 points and Sockman added 4 points for the visitors.

Madonna dropped to (6-12) and were led by their only senior Bartley nailing 5 three-pointers to finish with 16 points. Madison Owens added 14 and Rylee Birkhimer hit two from long range to finish with 6 points for the Blue Dons.
