Magnolia Routed by Tyler in Boggs Tournament 56-36

On Friday evening January 17, the Blue Eagles converged on Tyler Consolidated Gymnasium looking to improve on their 4-3 record in the annual Boggs Roundball classic, but it wasn’t meant to happen as the home team used a big third quarter to pull away for the win 55-36.
Brooke high school and John Marshall played the first game on the night with JM getting a two point win. Magnolia and Tyler then took to the floor in what looked to be a tough game for both teams. A close first quarter had fans on their feet as the Silver Knights ended the period on top 16-14. However the second quarter saw Magnolia turn ice cold scoring just eight points in the frame while the home team pumped in 13 to go up 29-22 at the midway point. Following the break things got worse for the Blue Eagles as they couldn’t buy a basket and only managed two points in the period, while Tyler continued to impress and hit for 18 to put the contest out of reach 47-24 with eight minutes to play.
The Blue Eagles played close to even with the Silver Knights in quarter four, but it was too little too late with Tyler winning the frame 14-12 to get the victory.
Coach Mark Winters squad got a balanced scoring attack led by Brady Giovinazzo taking game high scoring honors with 16 points with three coming from long range, Cole Lemasters added 14 markers and Brady Strode netted 11 to give the Knights three double figure scorers on the night. Also helping fill the scorebook was Zayden Hardbarger with six, Garrett Bordenkicher with five, and Austin Peck and Cam Strode with two each.
Kingston Christen led Coach Dave Tallman’s team with11 points, while 6-5 freshman Noah Hood contributed 9. Scott Bailey added six, while Hunter Oates and Darin Shimp each hit 3-pointers and Dubale Greathouse and Eli Midcap scored two apiece. Magnolia has dropped three straight games with their cold shooting woes and fell to 4-4 on the season.
The Silver Knights, who improved to 4-4 with the win hit 22 field goals in the game with four 3-pointers and went just 8-20 from the free throw line. Magnolia on the other hand could only manage 13 field goals including four 3’s. The Blue Eagles were limited to eight free throws, making six.
