Lady Eagles Drop Close Game to the Tigers 40-37
The Lady Blue Eagles fell to (3-3) on the season after dropping a close contest at home on Saturday afternoon January 4th to the visiting Wirt County Tigers 40-37.
The game was a close battle throughout the entire contest, but the Lady Eagles fell short. The visitors went up 12-10 after eight minutes of play behind seven points from Breigyn Dawson and led at the halfway mark 16-15 as the Blue Eagle won the second quarter 5-4. Wirt came out following the break and increased their one point lead to six with a 13-8 third quarter for 29-23 advantage heading down the stretch. The Blue Eagles used three baskets by senior Sienna McKeever and a big 3-pointer from Gabby Hudson to cut the lead to three, but that was as close as they’d get and the Tigers went home with just their second win (2-5) of the season.
Coach Kasey Sapp’s squad were led by Senior Sienna McKeever netting 11 points, freshman Kaylee Yost added 10 points, including 8-15 from the free throw line and a basket. Gabby Hudson finished with 6 markers, both on 3’s, while freshman Karli Warder netted 5 all in the first half. Freshman Bella Sockman added 4 points, while Jade Carvo ended the scoring with a free throw. Magnolia hit just 10 field goals in the contest and made just 11-25 free throws which proved to be the difference in the outcome.
Wirt hit 17 field goals and made 5-7 from the free throw line. Dawson was the games leading scorer with 20, while six other players added to the score book.
