Gavin Derby with Coach Jeff Derby.

The Lumberjacks welcomed Beallsville High School to Pine Grove on Monday, December 30, 2024, in boys basketball action and sent the Blue Devils home on the short end of a 72-38 game.

Valley held the visitors to a mere three points in the first quarter while racking up 21 of their own to dominate from the beginning to the end. Gavin Derby hit for 17 points in the contest despite playing less than three full quarters, and in doing so he eclipsed the Lumberjack school scoring record and became the School’s All-Time point maker. Following a steal which led to an easy basket, the game was momentarily stopped so Derby could be honored for his accomplishment.

The Lumberjacks had 11 players score on the night with Laden Jerico backing Derby with 13 points and Koleton Kinkade hitting for 11. Freshman Wyatt Rogers canned seven points, while Gage Wichterman and Cayden Stackpole each had five. Trevor Martin, Trevor Stackpole and Cash Ice all added 3-pointers, while Timmy Haught hit a basket for two points.

Beallsville only had two players able to score on the night with Gabe Eing and Jameson Bable each hitting for 19 points to share game scoring honors.

The hot handed Lumberjacks hit 29 shots from the floor, including nine 3-pointers. They made 5-9 from the free throw line. Beallsville hit 14 field goals and made 5-9 from the charity stripe.
