Blue Eagles Edge Visiting Hundred 73-63
The Hundred Hornets battled Magnolia on the Eagles home floor Friday evening December 20th and held a 13-12 lead after the first quarter, but the Eagles got the lead back and led 31-25 going into halftime.
The host Eagles would come out of the locker room after intermission with Kingston Christen catching fire and nailing four 3- pointers to lead the Blue to victory and finish with a game high 23 points. Magnolia pushed the lead to 52-42 after three quarters, and both teams hit for 21 points in the last eight minutes to get the final result.
The Eagles had a 17-point lead, but the scrappy Hornets never quit and battled back but got it down to seven-points in the fourth with Trey Huggins nailing nine fourth quarter points for the Hornets. Magnolia’s senior star Christen fouled out with 5:04 to go in the game, but the Blue Eagles’ depth kept them on track for the win.
Scott Bailey stepped up and finished with 18 points including a 3-pointer to keep the Eagles in the lead after Christen went out. Hunter Oates played a good defensive game and several steals to keep Hundred from getting any closer. Darin Shimp had 12 markers; freshman Noah Hood netted 10 points and Oates scored 8 points the home squad who improved to (3-1) on the season.
The talented Hornets got 18 points from standout Colt Sandy, Jaxon Huggins chipped in 16 points including four from beyond the arc, Trey Huggins added 11 markers and Tyler Sleeth netted 7 including a three. Senior pivot Braden Bartrug hit for six points while also hauling in nine rebounds and blocking three shots. Lyndon Johnson and Ryley Wright each added two points. The Hornets dropped to (1-4) on the season playing a tough schedule.
Magnolia finished with 25 field goals including five from three point land and went 13-20 from the free throw line. Hundred 22 shots from the floor with five 3-pointers and went 14-21 from the charity stripe.
