Hundred Basketball Returns All Five Starters

By Ed Parsons - Editor | Dec 4, 2024

Returning is senior Brayden Bartrug.

The 2024-25 Hundred High School Boys Basketball Team is loaded with experience and ready to kick off the season with all five starters from last year’s team that finished 8-14. With a roster of 14 Coach Nathan Huggins is excited with what he has seen so far. Assisting Huggins will be Joe Rinehart.

“This season is what we’ve been working for. We hope to have a winning year.”

The Hornets have a good combination of inside/outside players who complement each other very well. Brayden Bartrug, a 6-4 senior, will start in the middle for coach Huggins’ team. He has spent a lot of time working on his game and is a scoring threat down low with a nice shot from around 10 ft. He will also provide rebounding strength and good defense.

Back and much improved is Colt Sandy, a 6-3 junior forward. He goes strong to the basket and can pull up and hit the jumper. Sandy is a good athlete who can do most everything on the court.

Trey Huggins, a 6-1 junior, will man another forward spot but will also be used at the guard position. He is a scorer and will help out on the boards. Jaxon Huggins (son of Coach Huggins) is a rugged 6-1 junior who can play all positions. He has an excellent shooting touch and is a smart player, good ball handler and good defender. Rounding out the returning starters is 5-6 junior point guard Tyler Sleeth, a smooth ball handler and defensive player who can knock down the three ball and is an excellent passer.

Back with game experience is senior Terry Greaver, a 6-0 senior G/F who could break the starting lineup at times or provide help as the sixth man.

Newcomers expected to get playing time are seniors Conner Snedden 6-1 and Noah Smith 5-11.

Rounding out the roster are freshmen Lyndon Johnson 5-11, Austin Hayes 6-1, Rylee Wright 5-6, Dustin Pierce 5-10, Austin Larue 5-6, and Gavin Rakes 5-10.

“We have all five returning starters and a nice group of freshmen to help out. Our strength this year will be our inside game with Bartrug and Sandy both back. They are two strong players inside rebounding and finishing around the rim, “said coach Huggins.

” We’re looking to play mostly man to man defense. Putting pressure on in the half court. We will press if we have too, but our depth will be about seven, so we want to stay out of foul trouble.”

Coach Huggins said they are stressing conditioning, working on ball handling and learning the offense.

The Hornets are members of the OVAC and Mason/Dixon conferences.

Coach said he is expecting a big year from Bartrug, who has a good chance to hit his 1,000 point. He is also expecting big things from Sandy who could also hit the 1,000 career mark. He believes both Huggins boys and Sleeth will have big seasons handling the ball. The incoming freshmen group had a good season in the 8th grade and should provide some help as the season moves forward. The Hornets have size, quickness, and basketball intelligence.

The Hornets open the season on December 10, on the road against Beallsville, Ohio.
