Lady Eagles State Bound After Beating Madonna 3-0
Coach Pamela Chapman’s Lady Blue Eagles are heading to the State Tournament after beating Madonna in straight sets in the Regional Final on Tuesday evening November 5, at Magnolia High School Gymnasium.
The first saw the Lady Eagles take an early lead on power serves and tough net play, but the visiting Blue Dons battled back to tie the set at 12. Both teams traded points before Magnolia took the lead 23-22 on a hard spike from Sienna McKeever. They then got two straight points off the serve to take the first set 25-22.
In the second set, Magnolia stormed out to a 9-0 lead with superior serving and net play, before the visitors rattled off two straight points to make it 9-2 but lost the serve and the Lady Eagles jumped ahead 14-2 on a thundering spike by McKeever and two aces from Mallory McDiffitt. The Blue Eagles increased the lead to 16-3 and never looked back in beating the Blue Dons 25-9 with several good returns and superior net play.
The third set was a little closer but the host Eagles were not to be denied and went on to take the set and match 25-19 to earn a berth in the state tournament. Which started yesterday in Charleston. Magnolia improved to 18-13 on the season with the win.
Leading the way for the Blue Eagles was Kaylee Williams with 15 points from the service line including 7 aces. She added one kill and 3 digs. Sienna McKeever controlled the net play with 15 big kills, while adding 16 digs, 4 service points and one assist. Sidney Knight served up 9 points including an ace, had 10 digs, one kill, and a match high 27 assists. Aly Stillwagoner had 5 service points including an ace, plus 27 digs. Jessa Andersoncame through with 3 service points, all aces, 7 kills, one block and 16 digs. Mallory McDiffitt offered 4 points from the service line, 4 kills and 3 digs. Karli Warder had 4 kills, one dig and one block.
