Valley Crushes Calhoun on Senior Night 63-21

The Valley Lumberjacks played host to the Calhoun Redskins Friday evening October 18, 2024, at Tom West Field on Senior Night and blasted the Redskins 63-21. The Jacks improved to 6-1 on the season. The Lumberjacks honored seniors Gavin Derby, along with Landen Jerico, Joey Barr, Cameron Derico, Owen Morgan, Kreed Scyoc and Andrew Shaw all who have had much success in Valley football the past four years.
The visitors from Calhoun scored first and took a 7-0 lead, to get a good start, however it didn’t last long before Derby broke off a 59-yard run for a Lumberjacks touchdown and the two-point conversion run and the rout was on. Valley only led 28-21 before scoring two more times before the half to lead 42-21 at the break. The Jacks defense came out strong holding the visitors scoreless in the second half while the host offense cashed in three more times to make the final 63-21.
Leading the Valley attack was do-it-all quarterback Gavin Derby with 231 rushing yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns, he also passed for 136 yards going 8 of 9 for two more scores. Joey Barr added 162 yards rushing on 10 totes and 3 TDs, Landen Jerico had two receptions for 46 yards and a 30 yard touchdown strike. Wyatt Roger’s hauled in two Derby passes, one going for 32 yards and a touchdown. Andrew Shaw got in on the action with a one yard TD run. The Lumberjacks had 20 first downs, 453 rushing yards and 136 passing yards in the contest.
Valley is scheduled to travel over to cross county rival Hundred on Friday night October 25 to battle the Hornets at Cosgray Field. The Lumberjacks Final three games are against county opponents Hundred, Magnolia and Paden City.
The Lumberjacks are in search of making a run in the playoffs and will need victories in the upcoming contests.
