Magnolia’s Landen Davis Places in Top 10 at OVAC Cross Country Championships
The Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Championships were held on Saturday, October 5, in Cambridge, Ohio. In the boys division University high school took first place overall with a score of 31. Morgantown high was second with a score of 60 and Wheeling Park was third with a 144. Magnolia high school ended in the top 10 overall with a ninth place finish and a score of 302. A total of 199 runners took part in the event from 20 schools.
Senior Tyler Unbright of University was the first place overall winner with a time of 15:25.8. Magnolia senior Landen Davis placed ninth in the field with a time of 16:30.4. The Blue Eagles also received points from junior Riley Dennis who ran a nice race in a time of 17:38.7, junior Parker Werkau was right with him in a time of 17:43.6. Corey Trotto ran a 20:07.1 and Alex Yeager came in with a 20:32.2 for Magnolia.
In the OVAC AA division Magnolia won first place and Davis was the second finisher in his division. The Blue Eagles team had five runners competing out of a team of six with one absent. They will take the team to St. Marys next Thursday, October 24, to participate in the state regionals with a chance to make it to the state event on November 2.
Paden City junior Jack Nelson was the only other area runner to finish as he crossed the line in a time of 20:39.1
