Blue Eagles Fall to Tyler Consolidated

Magnolia's Finn Loy looks for running room against Tyler Consolidated.

The Blue Eagles are still searching for their first win of the season after traveling to Tyler Consolidated on Friday night and dropping a tough one to the Silver Knights 42-0.

The Blue Eagles started out looking to score early after winning the toss and electing to receive. They moved the ball down in the red zone to the eight yard line but couldn’t get in the end zone. The Knights took over but had trouble as Magnolia forced a fumble and took over on the 11 yard line. They moved inside the five and were looking to score on a pass, but a wide open receiver couldn’t hold on to the ball and Tyler took over.

From there it was all Tyler as they moved down field quickly and punched it in to take the lead and from there it was all Silver Knights as they controlled the ball on both sides the rest of the way.

Magnolia Coach Craig Mason said, “The injuries keep piling up on us. We got off to a great start but couldn’t finish our first two drives that we got down inside the 10. Hunter Oates sustained a season ending injury on the first drive of the game and missed the hole on a run that should have been an easy TD on that first drive. Then we dropped an open TD in the end zone on our second drive on 4th down.

“Shortly into the 2nd quarter, we were without our RB, LT, Center and TE due to injuries sustained early in the game. We later lost another RB and almost all these guys were two way players. I was proud of the way our younger freshmen and sophomores stepped up and competed the rest of the game for us. We are going to have to rely more and more on some young guys to fill in some voids until we get some guys back from these mounting injuries.

“We have been the unluckiest team I’ve ever been a part of with all these fluke injuries but we will have a next man up mentality this week and get ready for a home game vs. Frontier and hopefully in the next week or two, we will get our leader Matthew Anderson back that is still out from an injury sustained a few weeks ago.”
