Valley Cruises to Victory 47-0

Valley High School pushed their record to 5-0 on Friday night, September 27, with a 4-0 thrashing of the visiting Beallsville Blue Devils. The Lumberjacks celebrated homecoming night before a large crowd with the win and All-State senior quarterback Gavin Derby gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about.
Derby continued to up his chances for the Kennedy Award with a sparkling performance gaining 174 yards on just three carries and scoring on runs of 57 and 52. He also connected on 6-6 passing for 86 yards and two scoring strikes. Valley started out early in the game and quickly went up 6-0 on Derby’s first jaunt, the extra point kick was off the mark, but the Lumberjacks came right back on their next possession and made it 13-0 on a two yard off tackle run by Joey Barr. Derby’s kick found its mark and the home team was up two scores. Before the first quarter ended Valley scored twice more on Derby’s second run of 52 yards and Wyatt Rogers 20 yard reception from Derby to give the homecoming crowd more to cheer about with the lead pushed to 26-0.
The second quarter was all Valley as they added three more scores to go into the halftime break up 47-0. Following the halftime ceremonies where Erica Spears was crowned Homecoming Queen, Coach Miller called off the dogs and with a running clock cruised the rest of the way for he win. The Lumberjacks defense was stiff all night holding the Blue Devils in check and giving up just 31 total yards and three first downs.
Ayden Shaw carried seven times for 75 yards and a TD, Joey Barr six totes for 68 yards and a touchdown and Kolton Kinkade added 15 yards on two carries and Ryder Gravette added a 5-yard touchdown run for the victorious Lumberjacks. Kinkade hauled in three passes for 40 yards and one touchdown and Rogers caught one pass for a 29-yard td. The Lumberjacks have an open week October 4th, before traveling to Cameron October 11th for a huge showdown with the Dragons.
