Valley Falls To Cameron In Class A Region 1, Section 1 semifinal
The Lumberjacks were looking for a win on Tuesday night, February 28, as they traveled to Cameron, but fell to the Dragons 77-48. The two teams split during the regular season with Valley winning on their home court and Cameron defeating the Lumberjacks at home. However, Tuesday nights contest was mostly all Cameron once they got going after falling behind 9-1 to start the contest.
The Dragons started slow but picked up the pace with Mason Scott coming off the bench to light up the scoreboard with a game high 26 point performance, including seven 3-pointers. He received double figure scoring support from Colton Wichterman with 16 markers and Mason Debolt with 14.
After leading early the Lumberjacks went cold and Cameron stayed hot to take a 34-22 lead at halftime, on the back of Scott’s hot hand and a stout defensive effort. The Second half had the Dragons turn to Wichterman who pumped in 14 of his 16 in the half. However he received ample support from Debolt who also knocked in some big shots, as the Dragons won the second half 43-26.
The Lumberjacks were led by Trevor Stackpole as he hit for a team high 17 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Sophomore Gavin Derby added 11 points, and Briggs Anderson hit seven. Patrick Higgenbotham hit for five points, including a three and Dallas Preat added four. Chris Kennedy and Landon Jerico each had two points to round out the scoring for Valley.
Cameron hit for 26 field goals, including 14 from beyond the three point line, and made 11-21 free throws. They also led in rebounding 38-27 and forced 17 Lumberjacks turnovers. Valley hit 17 shots from the floor, including four 3ás and went 10-18 from the free throw line.
