Local Wrestlers in State Tournament Action
The Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights wrestling team finished in 9th place at the A/AA West Virginia state wrestling tournament. All five qualifiers for the Silver Knights won at least one match with three wrestlers making it to the blood round placement matches, but came up just short. “I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed on the results from this weekend. We have had a great year and season and unfortunately we did not have a great state tournament to end the year. Coming in as the #2 ranked Single A team we obviously didn’t have our best showing. The state tournament is a different beast and it got the best of us during the rounds on Friday. Although we came home empty handed, we have a lot of things to be proud and excited about for the future. Back to back LKC runner-up titles, Single A challenge runner-ups, and a top five finish in the Region 1 A/AA tournament were all great accomplishments. We’re only losing one senior, so hopefully next year this team comes back motivated from this experience and can make some noise here next year,” said Coach Paden Morris. The Silver Knights now embark into the off season with returning state qualifiers Kaden Huffman, Colsen Spragg, Sean Winfrey, Kendall Huffman and alternate Branson Winfrey.
Magnolia Wrestlers Lucas Zombotti and Jordan Davis also failed to make it to the final day but both had very successful years. Making the state tournament is a great accomplishment and a lifetime memory.
