Valley Chops Down Parkersburg Catholic
The Lumberjacks were too much for Parkersburg Catholic on Thursday night in Pine Grove, as they jumped out to an early lead and went on to get a 24 point win 74-50 over the visitors.
Valley used a hot hand from sophomore standout Gavin Derby and balanced scoring from the rest of the team to take down the Crusaders. Derby finished the contest with a game high 28 points, including five baskets from beyond the arc. He also ended with six steals, and five assists.
Patrick Higgenbotham finished with 13 points including two 3-pointers, and a 7-7 showing from the free throw line. Trevor Stackpole added nine points, including two 3ás, and eight rebounds, while Briggs Anderson and Chris Kennedy each hit four buckets for eight points. Landon Jerico added four points, and Ethan Shimp hit a free throw to round out the scoring for the Lumberjacks.
Catholic got 19 points from Lewis and 17 markers from McMinn. The visitors hit 18 field goals, including two 3-pointers, and went 12-21 from the charity stripe.
Valley nailed 21 shots from the floor, including nine 3-pointers, and went to the free throw line 34 times making 23. Valley led in rebounding 38-29.
