River Tops Bridgeport In Ohio Boys Division IV Sectionals
The Pilots scored their third victory of the season over the Bulldogs on Tuesday Night, February 21, inside the RL. Potts Gymnasium in Hannibal, by a score of 83-32.
The (19-4) Pilots jumped to an early lead and never looked back in gaining the win. Junior standout Kabel Isaly led all scorers in the contest as he poured in a career high 31 points, including six 3ás. He was backed in the scoring column by seniors Ty Long with 16 and Brody Lollathin with 10. Both players reached a 1,000 points in their career during the game. Senior River Thompson ended with six points, six assists, six rebounds, and four steals. Bridgeport was led by freshman Jaki Treet with 17 points, while senior ace Colin Jackson hit for 11.
River Moves On With Division IV Sectional Championship Win
Home standing River moved to 20-4 on Friday night, February 25, in Hannibal, at R.L. Potts Gymnasium with a hard fought 38-31 victory over ninth seeded Shenandoah. The top seeded Pilots found themselves in a dog fight as the Zeps put up a tough battle that wasn’t decided until the last minute of play as both teams fought with all they had and River finally getting the win.
The win moves the Pilots to the Division 1V District Semifinals at Union Local high school on Tuesday, were they will tangle with fifth seeded Strasburg.
The Pilots started out strong taking an 8-0 lead following 3-pointers by Kabel Isaly and Brody Lollathin, and a basket by Ty Long. However the Zeps came back with six points of their own all on free throws, but River ended the first quarter on a 5-2 run to lead 13-8.
From their the Pilots went ice cold in the second eight minutes scoring just two points, while the Zeps hit for nine to take a two point advantage 17-15 into the locker room.
The Pilots came out fired up and won the third quarter 11-6 to hold a 26-23 lead going into the final frame.
River opened the fourth quarter with two quick buckets to jump in front by seven, but Shenandoah hit two of their own and cut the lead back to three midway throught the frame. However that was as close as they would get as River held off the Zeps to pick up the win.
High scorer for the game was River junior guard Isaly who knocked in 11 points, including a 3-pointer, while going 4-4 from the free throw line. Backing him was Long with nine, Lollathin with six, including a three, and River Thompson, Kaden Johnson, and Peyton Blue with four each.
The Pilots hit 13 field goals, and went 9-14 from the free throw line. Shenandoah made just eight shots from the floor and hit on 12-14 free throws.
