Paden City Defeats Hundred in First Round of Sectionals
The Paden City boys basketball team entered post season play with an impressive 74-52 win over rival Hundred in the first round of sectional play on Saturday February 25 in Paden City. The game was close in the first half with the Wildcats holding a 25-20 lead heading to halftime. The third quarter proved to be the difference for the Cats as they outscored the Hornets 24-13 to extend the lead and secure the victory. Paden City had three players hit double figures with Adri Lila leading all scores with 29 points while pulling down a whopping 25 rebounds. He was followed by teammates Jeremiah Thomas with 14 points and Joey Baker with 11 points. Mickey Guerra added eight points and Brayden Neff and Oskar Lehtonen each scoring six.
The Hornets were led by Freshmen Colt Sandy with 15 points and seven rebounds followed by Sophomore Brayden Bartrug with 14 points. Also scoring for the Hornets was Karter Parson with six, Josiah Morgan and Trey Huggins each chipped in with five points apiece. The loss ended the season for the Hornets as they fell to 8-14 on the year.
The Wildcats will move on in Sectional play when they travel to Weirton to tackle the Blue Dons on Tuesday February 28.
